Jess Lord is a South Derbyshire-based stand-up comedian and screenwriter with a fondness for ordinary subjects that become significantly less ordinary the longer she talks about them.

Jess entered her first stand-up gig as the only total beginner and somehow made it through both audience-voted rounds.
She reached the full final and finished runner-up against more experienced acts. The set began with the suspicious lack of rain, moved through weird dreams and eventually arrived at the very important subject of cheese—and why some packaging is clearly trying to tell us something.
She had hoped to discover whether she enjoyed stand-up. Coming second answered that question rather aggressively.
BEFORE THE MICROPHONE
Storytelling was already the job.
Jess has a Master's degree in Screenwriting and develops original comedy for television alongside her live work. That writer's brain follows her onstage: structured ideas, vivid images and a tendency to investigate a throwaway thought far beyond the point at which a sensible person would stop.
Her comedy lives in the gap between everyday experience and the bizarre conclusion her mind has decided is completely reasonable.
